Red Rooster has taken aim at fast food rival McDonald’s after it released a new menu item – claiming it was the first of its kind.
Macca’s dropped the “never before seen” pineapple fritters and pineapple sundaes earlier this month, prompting fans to rush to try it.
But the Australian cult chicken restaurant has disputed the claim, claiming it has been selling pineapple fritters for ’50 years’.
“They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,” Red Rooster wrote on its social media after news of Macca’s new summer menu items died down.

Some Australians who reviewed McDonald’s new fritters gave it a thumbs up and said it tasted pretty good
“We’ve heard others trying to describe their new Pineapple Fritters as a ‘never seen before’ menu item…Can’t tell…Our products have been around for over 50 years!”
Despite the blow from Red Rooster, Aussies were quick to sample the new McDonald’s items, with TikTok influencer Mark Polchleb calling the treats a ‘game changer’.
‘The batter is golden brown and crispy, and the pineapple is sweet and juicy. No complaints,” he said of the fritter.
However, Red Rooster’s fritters came out on top according to TikTok influencer Bec Hardgrave, who tasted both versions in a comparison video.
“I have to give it to Red Rooster, it’s a little lighter in batter, it’s a little sweeter,” she said.
“The McDonald’s one is still super crispy and super tasty, the batter is a little thicker and a little salty.”
Some didn’t judge the Macca’s pineapple fritters on their own, but said pairing them with the sundae — a new “hack” that quickly attracted viral attention — was a “pineapple dream.”
‘The pineapple is still cold on the inside, it is fresh pineapple, there is a bit of thick batter on the outside. You definitely need ice cream with this,” food blogger Nick Vavitis said of the fritter.

A viral trend has emerged of Aussies dipping their beignets into their pineapple sundaes (pictured is a social media user dipping their beignets into a sundae)
‘The pineapple sundae itself, it’s super sweet and very refreshing. This is a yes from me, a big, big yes from me.”
Others echoed the tip, with Mr Polchleb saying the beignet “leveled up” the sundae.
“This was literally a game changer, this was what the McFlurry was supposed to be,” he said.
‘A fritter and an ice cream are really the perfect combination, and this increases the score from a seven out of ten to a ten out of ten.’
