Red alert! Redheads from all over the world gather to celebrate their fiery locks

  • Hundreds gathered in Tilburg, Netherlands, to celebrate redheads
  • Festival goers came from all over the world to celebrate red hair
  • The festival holds the world record for having the most natural redheads in one place

Hundreds of redheads flew from all over the world to the Dutch city of Tilburg for the annual Redhead Days Festival, which took place this weekend.

Gingers came from all over the world, from countries such as Britain, Israel, Italy, New Zealand and Germany, for the three-day event that is supposed to be all about ‘connection, pride and recognition’.

While this year’s festival drew huge crowds, it wasn’t nearly as big as the world record event in 2013, which saw 1,672 natural redheads congregate in one place.

Strangely enough, the festival was founded in 2005 by the blond painter Bart Rouwenhorst.

The painter, attracted to the aesthetic qualities of gingers, asked for 15 ginger models to paint, but received only 150 responses.

While everyone was being photographed, many expressed disappointment at not being selected as models.

Rouwenhorst then decided to turn it into an event in honor of red hair.

The very first meeting brought 150 natural redheads.
