Aussie recruiter reveals the brutal truth about WFH – and what you need to do if you don’t want to return to the office

A recruiter has hit out at Aussies who only want a job that allows working from home, claiming the trend is on the way out as more bosses send staff back to the office.

Tammie Ballis said in a TikTok on Sunday that too many job seekers had come to her complaining that they couldn’t find jobs that offered WFH.

“Yes, that’s probably true, because a lot of work from home or remote work is decreasing,” she said.

Ms Ballis revealed why she believes WFH and remote jobs are disappearing.

“Because people have taken the p*ss very openly, and employers and big companies want them back in the office,” she said.

She then provided helpful advice on what employees should do if they want to continue working from home or remotely.

‘So if you want to work remotely, you have to do it yourself. Start your own business,” Ms Ballis said.

Ms Ballis later clarified that she was not against WFH.

“I’m a big believer in wfh for the right people, no matter how many have abused it and ruined it for the rest of us,” she wrote in the comments section.

Social media users were divided, with some agreeing with the recruiter.

“It’s a daily occurrence in the FB mom groups: “Where can I find a WFH job so I can keep my kids at home?” someone wrote.

‘What?!? So 50 percent of your attention goes to your children and 50 percent to your work? Do you want 50 percent wages from your employer?’

“Seems like all the staff are taking the p*ss these days,” a second added.

‘The right of people to want WFH is a joke. Before Covid we all went to the office, then we can do it again,” wrote another.

‘Those who complain about the ‘work/life balance’ may be looking at a career change that suits you better.’

Another disagreed with Ms Ballis that employees are taking advantage of their employers by working from home.

“I don’t believe it costs the p*ss at all,” they wrote.

“It’s actually more inclusive for single mothers, people with anxiety, disabled people who aren’t very mobile, and so much more!!!!”

“I’m lucky enough to be able to work from home 99 percent of the time and definitely not take the p*ss,” wrote a second.

“From my work, even my boss says I’m one of the hardest workers she’s ever had.”

One of them suggested that working from home is being phased out under pressure from project developers.

Another follower suggested that HR departments caused the problem.

“lol HR teams in the companies are the ones taking the p*ss,” they wrote.

One employee argued that working from home is about trust and creating the right culture.

“As CEO of a tech company, we allow WFH, but not every day,” they wrote.

‘I trust that my employees can complete their work, whether they are at home or in the office. It all comes down to the culture you build.”
