Recruiter called out for ‘ridiculous’ advice after revealing why she hired new employee
Recruiter faces criticism after revealing she hired someone simply because they sent a long THANK YOU note after an interview – insisting other potential recruits should do the same
- An LA recruiter shared what made a candidate stand out after the interview
- Instead of the usual ‘thank you note’, the hopeful wrote an essay about her ‘worth’
- TikTok users were quick to call the recruiter’s ‘advice’ ‘free labor’
An employment expert has been called out for handing out ‘ridiculous’ advice after revealing the reason why she hired a new employee.
Los Angeles recruiter Julia Haber made waves on social media as she talked about the successful candidate who caught her eye by writing a thank you note that read, “This email will get you hired.”
In her TikTok video, which has been viewed more than 340,000 times, Julia shows off the post-interview post of the “recent grad” describing the value she can bring to their team.
The recruiter starts the video and says, “I just interviewed a recent graduate for a full-time position and her thank-you note alone would be reason to hire her.”

Julia explained the specific step that made the interviewee stand out.
She thoughtfully explains how she understands our business, [and] took a theme from our conversation and worked out an idea she could bring to the table,” she said.
She added that the interviewee “came with tangible value to me and my team.”
Julia said the recent graduate’s move made all the difference for the recruiter.
But not everyone was happy with Julia’s advice.
Many disagreed with companies “using potential employees for ideas” even before they were hired.
Another added, “Why do I have to bend over backwards to be considered for a role I’m clearly interested in. I’m exhausted.’
A third expressed concern: ‘We are giving companies way too much guts with these bs (bulls***). Any company that hires one candidate instead of another [red flags].’
Commentators were quick to call Julia’s ‘advice’ ‘free labor’
More commenters joined the anger, writing: ‘You guys are expecting too much’
Others felt the same way, with one TikTok user writing, “You guys are expecting too much.”
Meanwhile, someone else joked, “It’s chatgpt lol.”
Another viewer wrote, “I mean good for her! I sent a thank you email on Monday, but kept it short and simple. It’s already a lot of applying and applying.’
However, some are rooting for the candidate.
‘AI or not, this is what it takes to stand out! I like the initiative,” one comment read.
Someone else added: “From now on only hire people who show this kind of initiative.”
One person wrote, “I hope they get the part.”
Julia confirmed the good news and replied, ‘She did!! (sic)’
