Shelley Duvall of The Shining posed in a rare click with a fan on Wednesday — 20 years after he retired from acting.
The 73-year-old actress suffered from mental health issues after starring in the film, which caused her to retire from show business and become a Hollywood ‘recluse’.
Director Stanley Kubrick is said to have pushed Shelley harder than her co-star Jack Nicholson.

Shelley famously played the wife of Jack’s character Jack Torrance – who goes mad in a snowbound resort hotel – in the 1980s film.

Shelley has previously hinted at her struggle with mental illness during the filming of The Shining, which was released in 1980 but took 500 days to film.
Director Stanley is said to have pushed Shelley harder than her co-star Jack.
The iconic filmmaker reportedly had the cast and crew isolate her, forcing her to re-do scenes hundreds of times and not tell her what he and Jack were improvising to scare her even more.
Duvall starred in several projects after The Shining, including 1980s Popeye opposite Robin Williams.

However, she has not worked as an actress since 2002 and chose to move from Studio City, California to Texas 27 years ago.
After staying out of the limelight for a decade and a half, Duvall revealed her struggles with mental illness in November 2016.
Last year, Shelley gave a very rare interview where she talked about her iconic role in the film, revealing that she would spend days on the set of the film crying.
Duvall, 71, who was last seen during her appearance on Dr. Phil in 2016, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter in the Texas Hill Country near where she lives, discussing her grueling movie days with Kubrick, who was notoriously hard-working, and also looked back on her Hollywood career.
Journey: Shelley has previously hinted at her struggle with mental illness during the filming of The Shining, which was released in 1980 but took 500 days to film.
Duvall explained that she had to constantly panic to get into her role for the filmmaker.
Duvall explained: “[Kubrick] does not print until at least the 35th take. Thirty-five takes, running and crying and carrying a little boy, it’s going to be hard. And full performance from the first rehearsal. That’s difficult.’
She said she would put on a Sony Walkman and listen to sad songs or just think about unhappy memories to get into the right space to play Wendy Torrance.
Duvall said, “You’re just thinking about something really sad in your life or how much you miss your family or friends. But after a while, your body rebels. It says, “Don’t do this to me. I don’t want to cry every day.” And sometimes just the thought made me cry.
Life: However, she hasn’t worked as an actress since 2002 and chose to move from Studio City, California to Texas 27 years ago (pictured in the 1980 film)
“To wake up so early on a Monday morning and realize you had to cry all day because it was planned — I just started crying. I’d say, “Oh no, I can’t, I can’t.” And yet I did it. I don’t know how I did it. That’s what Jack said to me. He said, “I don’t know how you do it.”‘
THR asked her if she felt that Kubrick had been unusually cruel or abusive to her in order to get her to achieve the desired performance for the film.
Duvall replied, “He’s got that streak in him. He certainly has. But I think mostly because people have been so against him in the past. His first two films were Killer’s Kiss and The Killing.’
The play’s writer, Seth Abramovitch, asked the star to expand on the subject, specifically when it came to the director’s treatment of her.

She apparently has no ill will toward Kubrick when she said, “No. He was very warm and friendly to me. He spent a lot of time with Jack and me. He just wanted to sit and talk for hours while the crew waited. And the crew said, ‘Stanley, there’s about 60 people waiting.’ But it was very important work.’
However, fellow actress Anjelica Huston — who was dating Nicholson at the time — remembers Duvall and Kubrick’s interactions very differently.
The 69-year-old actress said: ‘I got the feeling, especially from what Jack said at the time, that Shelley was having a hard time just dealing with the emotional content of the play.
‘And they didn’t seem so sympathetic. It looked a bit like the boys were conspiring. That may have been completely my misinterpretation of the situation, but I just felt it. And when I saw her in those days, she generally seemed a little tormented, shocked. I don’t think anyone was particularly careful with her.’
