Rebel Wilson DID use Ozempic during her 80lb weight-loss journey, but no longer takes the trendy semaglutide injectable: ‘Those drugs can be good’

Rebel Wilson has finally confessed that she took the trendy type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic to help her lose 35 pounds during her 2020 ‘year of health’.

The Australian 44-year-old – who no longer takes the injectable semaglutide – admitted this The Sunday times: ‘Someone like me can have a bottomless appetite for sweets, so I think those drugs could be good.’

Rebel – whose polycystic ovary syndrome affects fertility – originally decided to slim down in 2019 at the insistence of her IVF doctor.

“No one really wanted me to lose weight except my mother,” Wilson recalls.

“People thought I was going to lose my niche in my career by playing the fat funny character, and they wanted me to continue with that.”

The SAG Award nominee and her fiancé Ramona Agruma eventually welcomed their 16-month-old daughter Royce Lillian Elizabeth Wilson via surrogate in November 2022.

Rebel (born Melanie Bownds) previously claimed she successfully achieved her goal weight of 165 pounds through high-intensity interval training with fitness trainer Jono Castano Acero, long walks and a diet high in protein and low in sugar.

Over the past four years, Wilson has admitted to gaining some of it back, including 20 pounds through “stress eating” in the run-up to the release of her upcoming memoir Rebel Rising.

“I strongly believe that young women shouldn’t try to be obsessed with looking like Victoria’s Secret models; they just have to look like themselves,” said Wilson, who is an “emotional eater.”

“I know my relationship with food is complicated.”

The Pitch Perfect alumnus – who enjoyed a luxury getaway to Nobu Hotel Los Cabos this weekend – is happy with her current 6-foot-2 figure as it is “still curvy and firm.”

Other celebrities who have admitted to using Ozempic include Elon Musk, Chelsea Handler, Amy Schumer, Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood, Lauren Manzo, Dolores Catania, Jennifer Fessler, Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi and Remi Bader.

Obesity expert Dr. Andrew Kraftson said most people taking these medications will reach a plateau around 18 months after starting treatment.

“You might tell someone that they might lose 15 percent of their weight with Ozempic or Wegovy.” But once they get to 15 percent, it’s not like they’re saying, “Oh, now I’m happy, great,” Kraftson told the newspaper. New York Times last September.

“I’m not trying to come across as the dream killer, but sometimes you really wonder, what is the hole we’re trying to fill? And will additional weight loss really fill this?”

Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus, Mounjaro and Victoza should only be prescribed to severely overweight patients suffering from type 2 diabetes – and only one of them (Wegovy) is approved for weight loss by the FDA in 2021.

The Novo Nordisk brand injectable can cost $25 per month for qualified patients who have insurance, but it costs anywhere from $600 to $1,300 for a month’s supply of four weekly pens out of pocket.

Rebel’s 336-page autobiography Rebel Rising: A Memoir hits shelves this Tuesday, and she’ll appear at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan for a reading event next Wednesday.

“I think once this press tour for the book is over, I’ll just get back to a little more normal schedule and figure out how to be a mom and also take an hour or two a day to be healthy,” Wilson claimed People on Sunday.

The blonde funnywoman’s upcoming films include Simon West’s spy comedy Bride Hard, JK Youn’s road trip comedy K-Pop: Lost in America and Timothy Scott Bogart’s Verona musical, based on Romeo & Juliet.

Rebel will also make her feature film debut with the Australian-based musical comedy The Deb, in which she plays Janette.
