Rebel Wilson COUNTERSUES producers of her new film The Deb after she was hit with defamation lawsuit

The legal battle between Rebel Wilson and the producers of her new film The Deb has taken an explosive turn after the Australian comedian filed a countersuit against them, telling DailyMail.com: ‘This is just the tip of the iceberg. There’s a lot more to come.’

Wilson, 44, was sued in July by producers Amanda Ghost, Gregory Cameron and Vince Holden, who alleged she falsely claimed to have embezzled money from the film and behaved with “absolute cruelty and retaliatory behavior.”

The newlywed was also accused of bullying and Ghost was falsely accused of ‘inappropriate behavior towards the lead actress in the film’ – previously revealed by DailyMail.com as Charlotte MacInnes, 25.

Now, court papers obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com reveal that Wilson is doubling down on her fight with the producers and has filed a countersuit accusing them of embezzling $900,000 AUD ($620,000 USD, £467,351 GBP) by blowing up the film’s budget to float.

Wilson also says Ghost also made false promises to get her on board, including a writing credit and a recording contract that never materialized, and forced her to sign contracts while threatening to sabotage her career if she didn’t.

She also claims that Ghost’s husband Cameron is “physically harassing” and that he and his wife worked together to “undermine” the film.

Additionally, the lawsuit – filed this week in Los Angeles – alleges that Ghost has a history of unethical behavior, including stealing the intellectual property of British singer James Blunt by claiming to have helped write the hit song “You ‘. re Beautiful’ and gaining partial ownership of the song.

According to the lawsuit, Ghost received similar treatment to Colombian megastar Shakira and American singer Sara Bareilles while she held the role of president at Epic Records.

Wilson also doubled down on previous allegations that McInnes was the victim of sexual harassment by Ghost – despite the 25-year-old denying anything had happened in a statement released to DailyMail.com.

The lawsuit highlights: “During pre-production of the film, Wilson was nervous to learn that the film’s lead actress, Charlotte MacInnes, was being sexually harassed by Ghost.

Rebel Wilson, pictured with MacInnes (second from right) and other cast members in May 2023, had accused producers of sabotaging her project and sexually harassing the lead actor – which MacInnes has since denied

‘Wilson discovered and reported that Ghost forced MacInnes to live with her in her penthouse apartment in Bondi Beach, that Ghost took a shower and bath with MacInnes – which MacInnes said made her feel uncomfortable – and that it was overheard that Ghost made openly sexual comments to MacInnes on set.

‘Remarkably, The Deb was MacInne’s first professional film role when he was just 24 years old, while Ghost was more than double her age at 50.

“In addition, Ghost’s highly inappropriate and sexually harassing behavior toward MacInnes caused her to have a breakdown.”

In a statement to DailyMail.com, Wilson’s lawyer Bryan Freedman said: ‘Amanda Ghost, Cameron Gregor and Vince Holden attempted to manipulate the narrative by recklessly filing a bizarre lawsuit.

‘Their real problem? So far, only a fraction of their scandalous behavior has been revealed.

“In their desperation to change the narrative, they failed to consider that this strategy would only lead to Rebel Wilson filing a cross-complaint, revealing a plethora of shocking and widely witnessed misconduct.

“Many brave people have come forward who have had similar cases with Amanda Ghost. However unfortunate, this was no surprise.

‘Stay tuned, this is just the tip of the iceberg. There’s a lot more to come.’

Wilson and The Deb’s producers have been locked in a war of words since July, when the trio first filed suit against her.

Wilson has repeatedly lashed out at Ghost, Gregor and Holden on social media, angrily telling her followers after the original case was filed: “It’s not defamation if it’s the TRUTH (which ‘producers’ I mentioned in my last post have just filed a complaint for defamation against me…’

She had previously called them “despicable and disgusting,” accused them of “bad behavior” and made accusations of embezzlement.

The drama revolves around the musical comedy The Deb, which follows the story of farm girl Taylah Simpkins and her city cousin Maeve as they look for dates for an upcoming prom.

The film, Wilson’s first directorial credit, made its debut at the Toronto Film Festival last month.

Ghost, Gregor and Holden’s lawsuit accuses Wilson of bullying and unreasonable demands, and of making up the story about McInnes.

They also accuse Wilson of invoking a false public persona and taking a flexible approach to the truth.

The complaint reads: “For years, Rebel has played the lovable, funny girl on the big screen, portraying herself off-screen as an advocate for other female artists and a whistleblower against abuse within the film industry.

“However, this public persona is a farce. Rebel is a bully who ignores the interests of others to advance her own interests.”
