Rebel Moon trailer teases epic sci-fi fantasy as part two of Zack Snyder’s 20-year production gets a Netflix release date
Netflix has released the first teaser for the upcoming two-part sci-fi epic Rebel Moon, directed by Zack Snyder.
The first chapter, A Child Of Fire, was set to be released as early as December 22, 2023, while part two, The Scargiver, is now also on the calendar, appearing on the platform on April 19, 2024.
If you think April 2024 is still a long way off, the wait has nothing to do with the director’s 20 years working on the idea.
The trailer for the two-part film sets up the “star-trotting epic” centered around Sofia Boutella’s character Kora – “a lone wolf soldier who has found community and connection on the quiet farming moon of Veldt.”
Netflix’s synopsis continues to say that Kora is a former warrior of the film’s interstellar empire, appearing on the moon and initiating “a battle between brutality and harmony.”
Scargiver: Rebel Moon’s first trailer has been released by Netflix, with the date for both parts now also known as December 22, 2023 and April 19, 2023
Legend: Zack Snyder (pictured) has been working on Rebel Moon for about twenty years, during which time he has directed a wide variety of hit films
With the contrast between life on and off the moon, the trailer also demonstrates the range of scenes and settings we’ll encounter in Rebel Moon, with a natural calm on Veldt and clinical chaos elsewhere.
This complexity may explain to some extent why it took Snyder so long to establish the idea, tellingly Netflix that “I’ve been working on this idea for this movie Rebel Moon for about twenty years.”
During that time he directed a large number of DC films, including The Flash, Wonder Woman and Man Of Steel.
His cast for this latest venture includes Anthony Hopkins who plays a robot named Jimmy, and Ed Skrein from Deadpool as sadistic Admiral Atticus Noble.
Rebel Moon is the latest collaboration between Snyder and Netflix following his 2021 feature film Army Of The Dead.
That bodes well for the new venture, with the film viewed by 72 million households in its first four weeks, according to the streaming platform.
He also wrote Army Of Thieves, Netflix’s prequel to the aforementioned original, and is working on a sequel and anime spin-off series.
