There was never any doubt about that Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire was set to be a holiday hit for Netflix, and the latest global top 10 is proof: It sits atop the chart for a second week, with 34 million views and 77 million hours watched. That's more than double the views of the next most popular film and the previous chart-topper Leaving the world behind.
But despite all its wonders, Rebel Moon isn't as enjoyable as the film currently at number seven on the Netflix charts. Top Gun: Maverick is one of the most entertaining films we've seen in recent years, and as we said in our Top Gun: Maverick review: “It strikes a near-perfect balance between heart, humor and breathtaking spectacle to earn its wings as a bona fide blockbuster… (it shows) what movies can still achieve in the age of streaming.”
It currently sits at a very respectable 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and according to our friends on GameRadar it is “an expertly crafted, thunderously enjoyable and surprisingly emotional blockbuster.” We completely agreed with that.
If you haven't seen these films yet and are looking for something action packed, Independent thinking person is 100% the right choice.
What other movies were Netflix holiday hits?
At number three is an oldie: Beautiful lady, which was viewed 8.4 million times last week. Like many films from that era – the film is over 30 years old – it hasn't aged very well; The guard say that even though it came out in the 1990s, it's still 1980s Donkey KongBananarama and the Rubik's Cube… star power goes way beyond what it has any right to.”
Number four is considerably less controversial. Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is not as good as the original Chicken coop, but even a mediocre Aardman movie is much more enjoyable than many other animations. Next on the list is The Super Mario Bros. Moviewhich currently sits at 59% positive reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes: Decider say that it “feels like it was written by a calculator” and we don't think that's far off. It's a great movie, but there's no danger of getting lost in it.
At number six is the sweet Adam Sandler animation Lion, a good-natured comedy about a talking classroom pet who helps an entire group of kids learn important life lessons. My 10 year old can confirm that it is “very funny” but “has too many songs”. Not everyone will necessarily agree with the second part.
Independent thinking person is next, and then two of the last three spots go to films from the Sniper franchise. Sniper: Ultimate Killing And Sniper: Assassin's End are at number 8 and number 10 respectively, with sub-par children's films The boss baby: family business.
Only Independent thinking person so is really troubling for our list of the top 10 Netflix movies (although some will certainly think so). Beautiful lady should be in there), but if you've seen it 15 times, great some folks from the Ny Breaking team watched (I'm using it for testing Dolby Atmos systems, okay? – Ed) these 4 new movies on Netflix in January 2024, with over 90% of them on Rotten Tomatoes.
