Realtor shares horror story to warn parents against bringing kids to house showings

An estate agent has warned parents about the dangers of taking children to home viewings after witnessing a horrific ordeal.

Karina VanOrman shared a story about how a family viewing a home in Utah ended up in the hospital with their six-year-old daughter.

The family brought their three children to the viewing, where they quickly became bored and restless.

“The kids were running around the house,” said VanOrman, who at one point tried to “track down” the children.

Playtime soon turned disastrous and the little girl rushed through the house to the backyard.

“I could tell she didn’t notice the sliding door was closed,” she said, adding that she made a futile attempt to call for the girl. “Before she could stop herself, she ran straight through the glass door.”

The girl smashed the glass door, sending a huge shard of glass into her stomach.

“She looked down in total panic, grabbed it with both hands, pulled it out and cut off her hands,” VanOrman recalled.

The little girl was rushed to the hospital, also with several head injuries, as VanOrman tried to comfort the frantic mother and other children.

“I just had to be strong in that situation,” she said. “And I had to be the one who wasn’t in shock.”

“I actually don’t recommend it to the kids because of this situation,” she said in her video.

Viewers in the comments agreed with the agent, with many pointing out the lack of parenting, which is often the case in situations like this.

“Some parents don’t realize that you always have to be a parent, no matter where you are or what you do,” one wrote.

‘If you have to take your children with you. One parent has to watch them while the other watches and then switch,” said another.

‘We took four children to look at houses and they knew to remain ‘quiet’ and keep their voices down. Why can’t parents teach their children these things anymore?’

“If you MUST take your kids with you. One parent should watch them while the other watches and then switch,” wrote one comment

Although many felt that it should not be the agent’s responsibility to care for a client’s children.

“The nerve of any parent to assume you’re watching their kids,” one wrote.

“I’m so tired of parents expecting strangers to raise their children,” said another.

However, VanOrman revealed how she tries to keep children from getting restless while tagging along with their parents for home viewings.

Writing back to a commenter who asked if the children were getting bored, she said: ‘Parents often take their children on days out to look at houses.

‘After the third house they become restless and towards the sixth house they often melt down. We take breaks and I bring snacks.”
