  • PSG are determined to sell Mbappé rather than lose him for free in 2024

Real Madrid are reportedly preparing a £103 million bid to sign PSG star Kylian Mbappé this summer.

The Spanish giants are planning to launch a bid to put pressure on PSG in the three days before September 1, when the transfer window ends, it is said.

Mbappé’s desire to leave PSG is no secret, but he hasn’t been keen on it this summer, with his initial preference being to move to Madrid once his contract expires.

He has refused to sign an extension, leading PSG bosses to insist he should be sold to the highest bidder so they can make some money back.

Now Madrid are planning to try to land their man a year ahead of schedule with a late summer flight, according to BILD.

The urgency has been accelerated by the departure of Karim Benzema to Al-Ittihad, leaving them in need of a high-end replacement.

Mbappe was briefly relegated to the PSG ‘B’ team for training – an illustration of PSG’s anger – but has since been reinstated.

The French champions’ president Nasser Al-Khelaifi had confirmed plans to sell Mbappé if he failed to agree a new deal after the striker was left out of the club’s pre-season tour of Japan.

“My position is very clear,” he said. “I don’t want to repeat it every time: if Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he has to sign a new contract.

“We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free, we can’t. This is a French club. He said he would never leave for free. If he changes his mind today, it’s not my fault. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free, that’s very clear.’

PSG have made a disappointing start to their Ligue 1 campaign with a 0-0 draw against Lorient and a 1-1 draw in Toulouse, with Mbappé scoring a second-half penalty.
