Jude Bellingham scored the winning goal as Real Madrid won the Clasico 3-2 to move 11 points clear of Barcelona in La Liga.

It is now only a matter of time before the England midfielder is crowned La Liga champions in his first season at the club.

There are still six games to play and Real Madrid can even take it easy in the domestic competition and concentrate on the Champions League semi-final against Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich.

“We have baked the cake, we just need to put the icing on the cake,” Carlo Ancelotti said before the match. Bellingham did so with his 21st goal in all competitions in extra time.

It was a night when both teams looked exhausted from their Champions League exercises last week and after Lucas Vazquez equalized at 2-2 in the second half, it looked like it would end in a draw.

But there is no off switch on the Bellingham engine – the legs just don’t know when to stop running and he had the final say.

After setting that ridiculous pace early in the season – 17 goals in his first 20 games – the England midfielder had scored just twice since the turn of the year, but he won this second Clasico of the season, just as he had the first won, with a brace in the match at Montjuic.

The best part was the last part,” Ancelotti smiled after the match. “Bellingham gets the winning goal. It has been an unforgettable week for us.’

Barcelona made the perfect start when Andreas Christensen headed in Raphinha’s corner after just six minutes. The former Chelsea centre-back found space at the back post from his marker Toni Kroos and headed past Andriy Lunin.

Real Madrid drew level when Pau Cubarsi brought down Lucas Vazquez and Vinicius smashed the penalty past Marc Andre ter Stegen, ending a run of 600 minutes for the keeper without conceding in the competition.

Lucas had passed Joao Cancelo and then fouled 17-year-old defender Cubarsi, who was making his Clasico debut.

Barcelona thought they had regained the lead when Raphinha’s corner was fired home by Lamine Yamal. The 16-year-old celebrated, but La Liga does not have goal-line technology so it was not given without a clear replay.

Barcelona took the lead again in the second half when substitute Fermin Lopez scored. But the lead lasted just five minutes as Lucas scored from Vinicius’ cross, sending Barcelona back into the hunt for the match. They needed to win that to have any chance of forcing the title race into the final weeks of the season.

Barcelona needed the goal but Bellingham continued to lead Real Madrid forward and he buried the winner in the roof of the net after Lucas’ cross went past Joselu in the six-yard box.

There were 91 minutes left on the clock and that meant the time for Barcelona to win the match and their season was up. The question now is when, if not, whether Madrid will win the competition.
