Real Madrid 2-1 Getafe: Jude Bellingham scores last gasp 95th minute winner to save three points for Carlo Ancelotti’s side at the newly renovated Santiago Bernabeu
- Jude Bellingham scores the last gasp winner for Real Madrid in the 95th minute
- Bellingham scored five goals in his first four appearances for the Spanish giants
- Madrid continue their strong winning start to the season and remain at the top of La Liga
Jude Bellingham continued his extraordinary start to his Real Madrid career by netting a winner in the 95th minute against Getafe to keep his team at the top of La Liga and maintain their record of 100 per cent at the start of the season .
It was Madrid’s first home game of the season and it started badly when former youth player Borja Mayoral scored after Fran Garcia’s back pass fell short to give Getafe possession.
In the first half they missed the injured Vinicius as they struggled in vain to break through Getafe’s stubborn defence. Bellingham thought he had won a penalty but the referee’s decision was overruled by a VAR check and with David Soria in stunning form for Getafe Madrid, the tunnel still went down at half time.
Everything changed in the second half. The introduction of Toni Kroos transformed the game with the German ping passes left, right and center of Getafe’s defence.
Joselu put Madrid back on track with his first goal for the club since his new contract in the summer. He last played and scored for them at the end of the 2010/11 season under Jose Mourinho.

In the end, Getafe did not give in and forced their first corner of the game in minute 85. When the fourth official showed an extra nine minutes, the recently refurbished Santiago Bernabeu thought there might be another one of those late late winners on the line.
Who would score it though? This is the club Karim Benzema lost in the summer; have since lost Vinicius to injury and failed to sign Kylian Mbappé as they had hoped.
Step forward, Bellingham. He had had his toughest game yet for Madrid, locked in by Getafe’s uncompromising centre-backs and their two midfielders Djene and Omar Alderete – both centre-backs by trade.
Door flew out of that cage with just four minutes left of the nine extra minutes to score from close range after Soria parried Lucas Vazquez’s shot.
Then came the now-famous celebration of arms outstretched for an ecstatic Bernabéu. The new stadium debuted with a new roof and a new field. In the middle there was a new idol who won the game for them.
