‘Real-life Tetris’: Ramp agent’s mesmerising TikTok videos of plane cargo holds being loaded

‘Like real-life Tetris’: Timelapse TikTok videos from airport workers show that stacking bags in an airplane cargo hold is hypnotically similar to the famously addictive puzzle game

The job of loading luggage into the belly of a passenger plane is ‘just like in real life’ Tetris‘, the famous addictive puzzle game in which players carefully place shapes in different spaces to prevent them from piling up.

That’s according to the Vancouver International Airport ramp agent’DJ Sugar‘, whose timelapse TikTok videos of him loading the cargo holds of planes prove the point in mesmerizing style.

He loads luggage and cargo onto planes, including Boeing 737s and Airbus A220s, with his videos earning him 622,000 TikTok followers and garnering a total of 32 million likes to date.

He notes that loading luggage keeps you in shape, but often films himself doing push-ups and crunches in the luggage hold to crank up his fitness.

When a TikTok user said their claustrophobia would prevent them from working in the cramped space, Sugue explained that you “get used to” the cramped conditions.

a viral video Sugue shared more than 837,000 views this month, in which he loads a Boeing 737 with suitcases.

In the clip, a mobile conveyor called a “ramp-snake” is laid out in the hold, which carries the bags from the doorway to the back of the plane, where Sugue carefully stacks them.

Another recent clip shows him unloading a plane using the ramp snake, going through the same moves in reverse.

In general, he says loading takes 20 to 30 minutes and unloading about 15 to 20 minutes.

He reveals that roller cases are his favorite bags to load because he can just roll them to the back of the plane. He, meanwhile, described heavy bags on two wheels as “the worst thing” to maneuver in the hold.

In a previous video, he explained that he started working at the airport to take advantage of the standby tickets offered to airport staff. Now he is allowed to travel every other month, he reveals. He recently spent seven days in Australia, courtesy of standby tickets.

Sugue doesn’t just load luggage onto the plane. As part of his role as a platform agent, he also assists in pushing back and towing aircraft, among other things.
