Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star Garcelle Beauvais joins cast of Hulu’s The Other Black Girl

Garcelle Beauvais returns to acting after raising her profile with her stint on The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills.

The 56-year-old actress-turned-reality star has been added to the cast of the upcoming Hulu series The Other Black Girl, Term reported on Tuesday.

Beauvais, who previously said the final season of RHOBH left her “crying every day,” will apparently have an easier workload on the new show since she’ll only play one recurring character.

The show, which is being produced by studio Onyx Collective, is based on the best-selling novel of the same name, written by Zakiya Dalila Harris.

The show centers on Nella (Sinclair Daniel), an editorial assistant at Wagner publishing house who is worn out by being the only black woman at the company.

When another black woman named Hazel (Ashleigh Murray) is hired, she initially feels more at home and sees her new coworker as an ally. But after discovering that something is wrong with Hazel, he sends Nella into a downward spiral.

Beauvais will appear in The Other Black Girl as Diana Gordon, a respected writer who is best friends with Kendra Rae Phillips, a former black editor at the publisher who worked there before Nella started.

Deadline notes that Diana and Kendra, Beauvais’s character, grew up together and attended the same college before Kendra edited Diana’s bestselling book.

The Other Black Girl got a show of confidence from Hulu, which ordered the show straight to series instead of waiting for a traditional pilot.

Rashida Jones of The Office and Parks And Recreation is producing the series, along with Temple Hill Productions’ Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, Adam Fishbach, the novel’s author Zakiya Dalila Harris, Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey.

In September, Term reported that master filmmaker Mariama Diallo had been hired to direct the first episode of the series.

Beauvais may have some extra time to film her scenes, as Andy Cohen revealed late last month that RHOBH would be taking a break before resuming filming, with a return planned for later in 2023.

Though he didn’t explain why the show was halted, fans speculated that the time off was to allow tensions to ease between some of the bickering cast members, notably Lisa Rinna and Kathy Hilton.
