Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das has been named the world’s best central banker for the second year in a row by US magazine Global Finance.
“I am pleased to report that RBI Governor @DasShaktikanta has been awarded an ‘A+’ rating in the Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2024 for the second consecutive year,” the RBI said in a post on X.
Das tops the list of three central bank governors with an A+ rating.
According to a statement from Global Finance magazine, the grades are based on a scale of A to F for success in areas such as inflation control, economic growth targets, currency stability and interest rate management.
An ‘A’ represents excellent performance, while an ‘F’ represents outright failure.
The Dane Christian Kettel Thomsen, the Indian Shaktikanta Das and the Swiss Thomas Jordan fall into the ‘A+’ category of central bankers.
“Central bankers have waged war on inflation in recent years, using their primary weapon: higher interest rates. Now countries around the world are witnessing the tangible results of these efforts, as inflation has fallen significantly,” the report said.
Global Finance’s annual Central Banker Report Cards honor banking leaders whose strategies outperformed those of their peers through originality, creativity and tenacity, it said.
The Central Banker Report Cards, published annually by Global Finance since 1994, rate the governors of the central banks of nearly 100 countries, territories and districts, including the European Union, the Central Bank of the Eastern Caribbean, the Bank of Central African States and the Central Bank of West African States.
