Darwin Nunez took advantage of a rare start to score the only goal for Liverpool in their 1-0 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

The Uruguayan scored his second goal of the campaign in the 27th minute after coming on for the injured Diogo Jota. The attacker poked the ball in from close range after Mohamed Salah’s header on goal.

The Reds survived an early scare when Lois Openda brilliantly curled a left-footed three into the top corner, but his effort was disallowed when he received the ball in an offside position.

Marco Rose has started the match positively and will be disappointed that his team did not do more to trouble the visitors. But the ease with which Liverpool navigated their daunting task is a testament to their confidence under Slot.

The Merseysiders welcome Bayer Leverkusen to Anfield for their next Champions League match, with Leipzig still searching for their point in the competition. More to follow.
