Razzie Awards 2024: Huge blow for Russell Crowe as he cops worst actor nomination for his role in The Pope’s Exorcist
Russell Crowe is one of several stars to receive a nomination for ‘worst actor’ at this year’s Golden Raspberry Awards.
The Razzies are awarded each year to artists and films considered the “worst” of the year, in direct contrast to the Oscars.
The Australian actor, 59, has been nominated for his leading role as the ‘James Bond of exorcists’ in the controversial film The Pope’s Exorcist.
Crowe delivers a chilling performance as the late Father Gabriele Amorth, the religious institute’s chief exorcist, who died in 2016 after becoming one of the most famous and respected exorcists in the Catholic Church.
Other stars in the Worst Actor category included Vin Diesel for Fast X, along with Chris Evans for Ghosted, Jason Statham for Meg 2: The Trench and Jon Voight for Mercy.

Many Hollywood stars hid under the covers on Monday morning as the 2024 Razzie Awards nominations were announced.
This year, Expend4bles by Sylvester Stallone leads the list with seven nominations.
Jennifer Lopez (for The Mother) and Megan Fox (for Johnny & Clyde) were among the ladies named Worst Actress, along with Ana de Armas for Ghosted, Salma Hayek for Magic Mike’s Last Dance and Dame Helen Mirren for Shazam! Anger of the gods.

The Razzies are always announced a day before the Oscar nominations, which are revealed on Tuesday, January 23 at 8:30am ET (12:30pm AEDT on Wednesday).
Expend4bles was the most nominated.
It is the fourth entry in The Expendables franchise. The stars were Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Megan Fox and Andy García.

The awards ceremony will be on March 9, 2024.

The Golden Raspberry Awards is a parody awards ceremony honoring the worst cinematic “failures.”
The awards ceremony was co-founded in 1981 by UCLA film graduates and film industry veterans John JB Wilson and Mo Murphy.
Razzie nominations are determined by a select committee before ballots are issued to members. Anyone can become a voting member of the Razzies by paying a $40 annual fee or a $500 lifetime membership.

The satirical annual ceremony of the Razzie Awards is preceded by its opposite, the Academy Awards, by four decades.
In 2023, after backlash for nominating 12-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong for Worst Actress, the Golden Raspberry Awards withdrew the nomination and said those under the age of 18 would no longer be nominated.
Andrew Dominik’s Blonde starring Ana de Armas led the competition with eight nominations and went on to win Worst Picture in 2023.
