It’s about content, abuse, and something I kind of got lost in at the worst of times.

“I know the song talks about heartbreak, but for me the song was about more than just that. It was also about processing trauma.’

Raye spoke openly about the mention of substance abuse, sexual assault, and sexual violence and anxiety in her lyrics, explaining that she didn’t want to shy away from “difficult” subjects.

She revealed, “I just want to be a woman who discusses uncomfortable topics that we don’t talk about, these are all things I fought with in the dark and in silence.

“You hope by writing about these songs and putting them out into the world, you just hope that people hear them and identify with them as well.

“It’s very much medicine in a way that you have a different feeling to add a pretty painful emotion to it.”

“For me it’s just very powerful, and I hope it can be a medicine for someone else who needs it.”

While the process of writing the songs was cathartic, it also led to candid and candid conversations with her loved ones – some of whom had no idea she had battled past demons.
