Ray Meagher breaks down during moving episode of This Is Your Life  

Ray Meagher was moved to tears when he was honored on Tuesday’s episode of This Is Your Life.

The 78-year-old could not contain his emotions as he received tributes from his former Home and Away colleagues.

The first was Chris Hemsworth, 39, who has gone on to become a superstar after his time on the soap.

Via a video link, Chris shared a sweet and comedic tribute to Ray, who he says has always been a good friend and mentor to him.

“Ray Meagher, godfather of Australian television, a flaming legend, my hero,” Chris said.

‘Mate, what can I say? The first time I met you, there you bathed in glorious light. White doves flutter around your head. It could be eagles.

‘We closed our eyes, we came closer. I took a deep breath, [thinking] he’s probably not a hugger. I raised my hand… and ducked into the costume department,” Chris said.

“Because I’d lost my nerves, mate. Sure enough, you came up to me and said, “You’re going to do great here.” You’ve supported me all my career. Thank you very much, friend. I love you. You are a good friend.’

Ray shed tears during and after the tribute, but when Kate Ritchie, 43, who became famous for playing Sally Fletcher on Home and Away, shared her own memories, he was left sniffing and visibly moved.

“Ray is really so much of what I’ve learned as a person, but also an artist,” Kate said, clinging to Ray’s hand.

Ray was deeply touched by the dedication

“Ray really is so much of what I’ve learned as a person, but also as an artist,” Kate said, clinging to Ray’s hand.

“And for both of us, we’ve played those characters for so long that… there is so much of us in them.

“So when I looked at those images… I actually saw two friends. He’s seen me grow from a girl into a woman, and he’s really proud of me. So I’m glad I made you proud. Thanks,” she continued.

The pair held hands again, and Ray was deeply moved by the devotion.
