RAY MASSEY: Job Titles Affect Auto Insurance Prices

  • Warehouse workers top list of highest-cost jobs, data shows

A new report from quotezone.co.uk reveals that job titles have a major impact on how much you pay for your car insurance.

Warehouse workers top the list of highest-paying jobs – earning an average of £1,371, almost 40 per cent more than the average £984, the findings show.

This is followed by care assistants (£1,343), chefs (£1,279), sales assistants (£1,240), shop assistants (£1,193) and accountants (£1,148).

Best value: Pensioners enjoy the cheapest premiums, averaging £492

Truck drivers (£580) receive a bonus that is a whopping 41 per cent lower than the average, followed by civil servants (£589), teachers (£664) and nurses (£741).

Pensioners typically enjoy the lowest premiums, averaging £492, or around 50 per cent less than average.

According to the experts at Quotezone, small changes to the job title can help reduce premiums, as premiums are risk-based. This is provided that the job title remains accurate, otherwise your insurance could be invalidated: ‘For example, care assistants may try to quote using ‘care provider’ or ‘care assistant’ as the job title, as these professions are considered lower risk, depending on the insurer’s classification system.’

Greg Wilson, founder and CEO of Quotezone.co.uk, said: ‘It is possible to reduce your insurance premium slightly by trying variations on the wording of your job title.

‘As long as the information is still factually accurate with your daily tasks and responsibilities, it can save costs.’
