RAY MASSEY: An electric dream could turn into a nightmare if the public doesn’t buy it
Honda is betting big on Las Vegas this week with two new fully electric cars set to hit UK showrooms next year.
The Japanese automaker has made a splash at the US city’s annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) with prototypes of a boxy but curvaceous SUV and a dramatic Lamborghini-style sedan.
Competition: The low-slung flagship Honda 0 Saloon is a contender to take on Tesla’s Model S
The upright mid-size Honda 0 SUV will land first as a rival to Tesla’s new Model Y ‘Juniper’ and the G6 crossover from Chinese newcomer Xpeng. And the low-slung Honda 0 Saloon flagship is a contender to take on Tesla’s Model S.
Both new cars promise a range of more than 300 miles. Honda says it will be the first to offer Level 3 ‘eye-off’ automated driving, but it is expected this will only be available in heavy highway traffic and where local law allows it.
As modern cars become increasingly hi-tech and digital, the Vegas-based CES has become a major showcase for new models.
