Ravindra Jadeja is indicted by the ICC after using soothing cream on his spinner finger during India’s attack on Australia WITHOUT asking the referees for permission in the first test.
India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been fined by the ICC for using a soothing cream without informing the referees during India’s big win over Australia.
Social media erupted on Thursday after the India star was seen applying cream to his spinner finger during his five-wicket tear of the Australians in Nagpur, with Michael Vaughan demanding answers.
‘What is he putting on his spinning finger? She had never seen this…’, he tweeted her.
Indian officials later insisted that Jadeja was applying a soothing cream to help ease the swelling on her finger, and the ICC said no charges would be filed.
However, after India assaulted tourists in Nagpur, the ICC fined Jadeja, equal to 25 per cent of the match fee, plus one point of demerit, as she failed to seek permission from the referees on the use of the cream

“Team India management had explained that the finger spinner was applying the cream to a swelling on the index finger of his bowling hand,” a statement read. “This was done without asking the referees on the field for permission.”
Jadeja has accepted the penalty and the Match Official was satisfied that the cream was used for medical purposes only and was not applied as an artificial substance to the ball to change its condition.
Australia fell to a humiliating defeat by an innings, 132 runs in three days on Saturday, with Ravichandran Ashwin taking a five-wicket haul to embarrass Cummins’ team in Nagpur.
There were fears over the pitch before a ball was thrown, with the Australians complaining that it had been “rigged” to the advantage of the hosts.
But India registered 400 runs in their first innings and Australia failed to come close to that total despite taking two bites of the cherry, with Cummins admitting the wicket was “not unplayable”.
“The game moves quite fast sometimes here in India and you have to manage the tempos, India played very well and Rohit showed his class,” Cummins said after the match.
‘Those first innings, the wicket spun but it wasn’t unplayable. We would have loved to have gotten another 100 or more runs and pushed his innings.’
The spinner was seen applying a questionable substance to his finger while taking five wickets.
He then took a five-wicket haul as India bowled out Australia for 177 on the first day.
However, Cummins insisted there was reason to be positive, with Marnus Labuschagne scoring 49 runs in the first innings while debutant Todd Murphy scored five fa.
“Obviously starting here is tough, but three or four of our guys came in and got comfortable,” he said. “They have to turn it into big scores and the other guys have to find a way to get in.”
On Murphy, Cummins added: “He’s been fantastic on his debut, he’s been really impressive over the last year or so, he’s been fantastic.”
