Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy slams ‘unacceptable’ treatment from Chiefs staff after eye injury in NFL opener
Baltimore Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy lashed out at the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff after injuring his eye during the NFL season opener last Thursday.
Van Noy broke an orbital bone and was unhappy with the way the Chiefs medical staff handled his situation.
In his podcast “McCoy & Van Noy” with retired NFL defensive end Gerald McCoy, the linebacker described the lack of reaction time from the Chiefs’ coaches, calling their efforts “very unprofessional.”
“I was disappointed with the way the Chiefs coaching staff handled the situation,” Van Noy said.
“When you get injured, especially if it’s a serious injury like mine, you have to rely on the team’s coaching staff or their doctors.

‘I was supposed to go to an ophthalmologist… And it took them a whole quarter to talk to me in the locker room. Which I find unacceptable, because then you start thinking: what if I wanted to get back in the game?
“What if I was really, really hurt? Mine happened to be moderate, but it was still serious because it’s the eye, and your expectation for someone to be down there the way the training staff asks them to be down there would have been a little more urgency. The way it took time was super unprofessional to me.”
Van Noy pointed out on the show that the Chiefs players themselves gave their coaching staff an “F” in the most recent NFL Players Association grade, a tool that requires players to evaluate every aspect of their organization.
After Van Noy was eliminated on defense, the Ravens lost to the Chiefs 27-20.
That happened despite a late comeback from Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who threw a touchdown pass that was overturned because tight end Isaiah Likely’s toe was just out of bounds.
There is currently no known timetable for Van Noy’s return.
