A footy fan has rediscovered a raunchy late-night TV ad from seventeen years ago that has left Reddit users in disbelief that it was allowed to air.

In 2006, footy fans could pay $4 a day to a subscription service called FootyBabes.com.au to receive a photo of a “hot babe” straight to your phone every 24 hours.

A 15-second TV commercial for the now-defunct website was shared online Thursday and featured a voiceover saying, “Footy babes on your mobile! For hot Aussie rules babes text AFL to 19 777 333. For rugby league text NRL to 19 777 333. Text now to 19 777 333.’

The fine print on the ad reads, “This is a subscription service. You must be 18 years or older to use this service. You pay an entry fee of $0.50 plus $4 per day. Only one photo a day.’

Fans are baffled by how it was given the green light to air.

The company is now defunct, but fans were amazed that the commercial aired

A Reddit user shared how a mother complained that her son was spending four figures on the service

“$4 a day subscription, that’s where they get you!” And only one photo a day, WTFFFFFFF. Still a better value than Crazy Frog ringtones,” said one Reddit user.

Another fan quipped, “Food $400. Data $100. Rent $800. Hot footy pics on mobile $122. Utility $300. Someone good at economics please help me budget this.” My family is dying.’

“Be honest, who has tried the number after seeing this message?” said a third fan.

“So glad I never fell for one of these when I was young and dumb,” another fan wrote.

But a former Telstra call center recalled how an upset mother received a four-figure bill after her teenage son used the service.

“I got a call from a mom one time, her 15-year-old had a phone bill of about a thousand dollars from one of these numbers,” they posted online.

‘Unfortunately I couldn’t do anything about the accusations, but I will never forget her closing words. “Okay, just hang up. I don’t want him calling anyone for help if I fucking kill him.”
