Raspberry Pi used in ATM burglaries in Texas
Three net-savvy tech Texans have been arrested for allegedly (read: caught red-handed) using a Raspberry Pi to steal thousands of dollars from ATMs in the city of Lubbock.
By local news channel Everything Lubbock (through Tom’s hardware), their string of ill-gotten gains (thousands of dollars from West Texas machines) came to an end after officers apprehended them in a hotel room containing several Raspberry Pis.
And if you’re wondering if this is just a horrible Adam Sandler movie about three hapless computer programmers at the wrong time, it isn’t. Our heroes have been charged with unlawfully intercepting, using or disclosing wire, oral or electrical communications, and simply engaging in criminal activity – which is an incredible law to have.
If the Raspberry Pi is involved in a bank robbery, that’s theft (amore)
The relative novelty of this case means you have local news in disbelief and reports it as if the Raspberry Pi was an invention of Dr. claw is, but it’s unclear how the defendants pulled this off with everyone’s favorite little computer ma-bob. However, we doubt you’ll find the software on Github.
