Rasmus Hojlund is ‘starting to look a player’, Jamie Carragher claims – as he heaps praise on Man United forward following his goal against Brentford

Jamie Carragher has praised Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund, who the former Liverpool defender says is ‘starting to look like a player’.

Hojlund has had a mixed time at United so far after signing for £72 million from Atalanta last summer. He scored 16 goals in all competitions but struggled to find the consistency many had hoped for.

He missed the start of this season due to injury but is now fit and fit and is expected to lead the United line as they look to turn their fortunes around after their worst ever start to a Premier League season.

The 21-year-old scored his second goal of the campaign against Brentford at the weekend with a lovely chip to score the winner, and Carragher is starting to like what he’s seeing from United’s number 9.

Speaking on Sky SportsHe praised Hojlund and suggested he could be the answer to United’s forward problems in recent years.

However, he scored the winner against Brentford and has been in good form since returning from injury

“Hojlund, I think he’s starting to look like a player,” Carragher said. ‘I was very impressed with him in Porto a few weeks ago, he has made a real change.’

He added: ‘There’s real talent in the front three, but the man who scores the winning goal, I think he’s starting to look like a player.’

United will hope that Brentford’s victory can give them a head start in improving their fortunes this season.

Before the match they had gone five games without winning and things looked ominous when Ethan Pinnock controversially headed the visitors in front from a corner.

But Alejandro Garnacho scored early in the second half from a brilliant cross from Marcus Rashford, and Hojlund kept the points at Old Trafford.

Carragher, meanwhile, explained why he saw a beacon of hope for United coming out of the match.

“The front three,” he began. ‘We talk about Marcus Rashford being better suited on the left, but he played on the right and I think this is one of his best games we’ve ever seen.

‘Garnacho on the left scores a beautiful goal. I think the combination of those three up front might be something that can keep them going.”

Aaron Ramsey, meanwhile, praised Marcus Rashford, who provided the assist for Garnacho’s strike

Aaron Ramsey, who worked as a pundit for the Sky Sports show, added of Rashford: ‘I think he’s a fantastic player when you get him on the ball. He can produce nice little passes and chances.

‘He had a huge impact on the match, especially in the second half.
