Man United striker Rasmus Hojlund has given his opinion on the club’s decision to retain manager Erik ten Hag.

It was believed the Dutchman would be sacked at Old Trafford ahead of United’s FA Cup final against derby rivals Man City. The Red Devils would conduct a performance review at the end of the season.

United held talks with other managers but ultimately it was decided that Ten Hag would stay and the 54-year-old is now set to sign a new contract.

Speaking to journalist Florian Plettenberg after Denmark’s exit from Euro 2024, Hojlund said: ‘vvery happy (that Ten Hag is staying), he is a very good coach.

“I have enjoyed working with him this year and I look forward to working with him many more times.”

Ten Hag pushed for United to sign Hojlund last summer, with the club agreeing a fee of £72million with Atalanta for his services.

The 21-year-old scored 16 goals in 43 appearances in his debut season but struggled for a long time.

Looking ahead to the new season, Hojlund said: “I want to get even better and score even more goals. Hopefully we can win another prize.’

United are seriously considering signing Matthijs de Ligt this summer, according to reports. Hojlund was also asked about the possible transfer.

He said: ‘That has nothing to do with me, I can’t answer that question, but he is a good defender.’

De Ligt joined Bayern Munich in 2022 on a £68m contract but was limited to just 16 league starts last season as they failed to win the league for the first time in more than a decade.
