Fashion designer Alex Perry looked almost unrecognizable when he was spotted on a trip to Coles in Sydney’s west on Monday.

The rarely seen 61-year-old showed off a very muscular physique in his white T-shirt paired with black grunge cargo pants.

The designer dressed up with a pair of cool black sneakers, a matching cap and a watch with a black strap.

He was seen carrying a bag of groceries to his car, with a fanny pack on his right shoulder.

The fashion designer, who is best known for his womenswear, also made a name for himself on TV as a judge on Australia’s Next Top Model and as a mentor on Project Runway.

Alex was last seen publicly in October showing off his new physique as he stepped out at the AusFitness Expo in Sydney.

The renowned designer looked noticeably more muscular as he posed with two models at the fair.

Alex often trains with personal trainer and bodybuilder Simon Di Natale at City Gym at Darlinghurst in Sydney.

The designer previously said that his work in the gym was as good for his state of mind as it was for his physical well-being.

He told SBS: ‘Going to the gym and exercising keeps me in top condition, both physically and mentally, for everything I face in the fashion industry.

‘After the first year I went to the gym I started to hate it and had to drag myself there, but now I really enjoy it.

“It makes me less stressed and then I can go home and feel normal.”

Greek-Australian fashion icon Alex, whose real name is Alexandros Pertsinidis, has been married to his wife Mary for over thirty years.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald about his successful marriage, Alex said Mary was a driving force in building his multi-million dollar fashion empire.

‘She is methodical and likes to plan. I make decisions on the fly and follow my instincts.’

Alex’s instincts sometimes took their marriage into dangerous territory, especially when he made risky career decisions without consulting Mary first.

“I don’t understand how she didn’t kick me out,” he admitted.
