Aussies could get more than their money’s worth from a $2 coin that is now worth a whopping 20 times its face value.
The rare coin, minted to celebrate 100 years of Australian troops landing at Gallipoli during World War I in 1915, could now fetch up to $40.
The limited edition coin first released in 2015 is inlaid with symbols commemorating the sacrifice of Australian diggers.

The words ‘Lest we Forget’ are engraved in the center of the coin, which is decorated with a red circle of poppies – the iconic flower in memory of soldiers who fought in the two world wars.
Engravings by diggers adorn the outer rim of the coin, commemorating the men who served in the battle on the Turkish coast.
Australians have been urged to keep the collectible coin, which Joel Kandiah, a self-described specialist coin researcher and collector, says will fetch a fair price if sold.
Kandiah posted a video about the rare coin to his TikTok account thehistoryofmoney, revealing its current value.
“If you find one, they’re worth between $20 and $40,” he said.

The limited edition coin has a very modest mintage, with only 1.46 million versions made by the Royal Australian Mint.
By comparison, over five million of the current $2 coin in circulation was printed by the mint.
Several TikTok users commented on Mr Kandiah’s post and shared their thoughts on the valuable piece of loose change.
“I have ten,” one wrote.
“Love this coin,” said another.
“It’s still worth $2.00 bucks (sic) just when shopping,” another user wrote.
There are several other $2 coins that have been released recently that have prices well above their face value.
The $2 coin with a picture of a red poppy is worth $280.
Only 500,000 versions of the coin – created in 2012 – have been minted.
A similar coin inlaid with a gold poppy, made the same year to commemorate Remembrance Day, can fetch up to $30.

Australian coins have been internationally acclaimed and the coin previously won two awards at the International Coin of the Year Awards in August 2023.
