‘I’ll take a few weeks to see where I am’: Raptors head coach Nick Nurse says he will assess his future with the team after 10 years in Toronto after a ‘difficult season’

Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse told reporters Friday that he wants to take some time to think about his future after the end of what has been “a difficult season from a number of standpoints.”

“Early on, I had some pretty serious injuries to some key players,” Nurse said before his Raptors faced the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center.

“I thought we were over it for a while…and then yeah, I think the trade deadline, I don’t know if there were a thousand rumors, 999 of them were about us it seemed. So that was probably the most interesting thing to do.

Nurse noted that his main focus remains, however, on finishing the current season.

“First of all, I think when this season is over, we’ll evaluate everything, and even personally, I’ll take a few weeks to see where I am, you know?” said the nurse. ‘As you said, where is my head. And just see how the relationship is with the organization and everything.

“It’s been 10 years now for me, which is a pretty good run. I don’t know, during those 10 years we were ahead in number of victories with anyone in the league. I don’t even know where that is, but we’ve had a lot of great seasons.

‘And then right now my head is to make this season as long as possible. This team needs playoff experience.

“So that’s where I’m at right now…finish these six, see where we land, see if we can move up a spot or two in the standings, and then give them hell in the playoffs, see if we can get into a real series. and continue from there.’

As Nurse noted, he spent a total of 10 years in Toronto between his time as head coach and assistant coach. He also stated that he still hasn’t thought about training elsewhere in the future.

Since being named head coach of the Raptors, Nurse has posted a 224-160 record and led Toronto to the 2019 NBA championship.

Toronto entered Friday with a 38-38 record before facing the Philadelphia 76ers.

They currently sit ninth in the NBA Eastern Conference and still have a chance to make it to the NBA Play-In Tournament.

Toronto has still performed well enough to be in a position to make the Play-In Tournament.
