Rapper Trae Tha Truth sees daughter, six, for first time since August after alleged kidnapping by mother

Rapper Trae Tha Truth saw his 6-year-old daughter Truth for the first time in more than four months on Wednesday after she was reported missing following a summer visit with her mother Heather Cuevas.

The Houston-born rap artist, 44, had previously reported Truth’s disappearance to police, saying she was last seen on August 16 with her mother Cuevas, 36, during what was supposed to be a weekend visit. Fox 26 Houston reported last month.

The musical artist, whose full name is Frazier Othel Thompson III, posted to Instagram on Thursday an emotional series of clips of him reconnecting with the child at an office on the US-Mexico border.

Trae, who last saw Truth after an exchange with Cuevas, related TMZ Hip Hop On Thursday, Cuevas was taken into custody in El Centro, California on child endangerment charges.

Trae, who has collaborated with artists like T.I., Snoop Dogg, Travis Scott and Lil Wayne in the past, told the outlet that he boarded a San Diego flight from Texas and then drove more than 100 miles to meet his daughter to pick her up at the building where officials held her after her mother’s arrest.

Trae told TMZ that he remains in Texas, where authorities plan to extradite Cuevas shortly.

Trae told the outlet that he was “emotional and planning to take things one day at a time” after reuniting with his daughter.

Trae told TMZ that he last saw his daughter last August during a two-day visit to Cuevas in Houston, but she did not return the child and cut off all contact with him.

Trae spoke to the Houston NBC affiliate last month KPRC 2 about the details surrounding his daughter’s first disappearance.

“The mother came to Houston and said she wanted to exercise her visitation, so I took her and dropped her off in Humble,” Texas, Trae told the outlet.

He said he expected the visit to last from Friday to Sunday.

Cuevas had her family members help her move the child to different homes after the alleged kidnapping, Trae told TMZ on Thursday.

Trae told the outlet that a private investigator he hired located Cuevas in California, but was unable to determine her exact location prior to her arrest.

Trae said Truth’s mother cut off all contact with him and disconnected her phones.

“She just disappeared, so luckily man, someone told me they were spotted in LA and that’s how it started to where I left to go to LA to look for her,” Trae told the outlet.

Trae said in an Instagram post that he felt his faith in God was integral to his daughter’s finding, and his strength amid the tumultuous time.

“Never let anyone tell you that God isn’t real!!!!” Trae said. “The first day of 2025 I got a call that I couldn’t believe… they said she had been found.

“I know God is the only reason I persevered when I wanted to give up…. I had to let go and trust him, even though it was hard the past few months. I was completely broken and empty… I learned to have faith.”

Trae said on the social media site that he instinctively believed God was protecting his daughter when he couldn’t find her.

“God put the right people in place,” he said. ‘God put the right eyes to see, God put it on people’s hearts to help and God aligned every person who prayed and heard crying!! Thank you!!
