Rapist who began identifying as a woman after attack is sentenced to six years in male prison

A rapist who began identifying as a woman after the attack and was referred to as ‘she’ in court was yesterday sentenced to six and a half years in a male prison.

Lexi Secker, 35, cried as a judge said he was “considering how difficult a prison sentence in a men’s facility will be.”

Wiltshire Police faced criticism last month after refusing to specify the suspect’s biological sex. They said “the crime was committed by a man,” but Secker was tried “as a woman.”

Judge Jason Taylor told Swindon Crown Court that the attack was carried out by a man who was ‘obviously attracted to women’ and focused on ‘sexual gratification’ after luring a drunken woman to a remote woodland spot in Wiltshire.

The judge told Secker: “You now identify as a woman and are attracted to men. At the time of this crime you were a man.

“You identified as male and, from the evidence, you were clearly attracted to women.”

A June police statement said Secker was “living as a man at the time of the crime” and that the crime was “registered as committed by a man.”

A police statement said Secker was tried 'as a woman' at Swindon Crown Court, despite the rapist 'living as a man' at the time of the offence.

But the statement also said that Secker was tried “as a woman” and called the rapist “a person.”

Fiona McAnena, from the charity Sex Matters, said at the time: ‘This person is a man. Why don’t the police say that? Do they think they have to pretend because he now says he’s a woman even though he committed the ultimate male crime of rape?

“It is deeply concerning to see how police play on the feelings of trans-identifying men. It does not inspire confidence that they are doing police work without fear or favor.”
