Didier Deschamps has suffered an injury after it was announced that Raphael Varane will ‘not’ be banned from the World Cup after suffering a thigh injury during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
It appeared to be heartbreaking for the 29-year-old as he appeared to stretch for a challenge and left the field in tears during the second half of Saturday’s game, worrying about his availability for the Qatar Showpiece .
But the injury appears to be much less serious than first thought, as journalist Julien Lorens said an MRI scan revealed that Varane suffered a lesion to his femoral biceps, which will leave him out for three to four weeks.

Laurens wrote on Twitter: ‘I have been told that Raphaël Varane has suffered a lesion on his femoral biceps that is less severe than originally thought.
‘He should be out between 3 to 4 weeks and sees the MRI results as positive. He will not play for United for the World Cup and then Deschamps will have to call on him.’
The centre-back is not expected to play for United again before the World Cup, but it is promising news for the French boss
Deschamps was hampered by injuries ahead of the tournament, with star midfielder N’Golo Kante arguably the biggest omission, who underwent hamstring surgery last week.

Several other players are also doubting Les Blues, including Boubacar Kamara, Paul Pogba, Lucas Digne and Lucas Hernandez.
The omission of Varane would have been a huge blow to Deschamps, despite having a high-quality stock of central defenders in the form of William Saliba, Jules Kunde and Benjamin Upamecano, who were able to move up in Varane’s absence.
But it’s a promising update for Varane, who looked distraught as he left the field on Saturday.
The Frenchman was also an important cog in Erik ten Hag’s backline this season. He has played in all but two of United’s Premier League appearances this season, helping them keep four clean sheets in ten games.
