Rangers are ‘bang average’ despite Philippe Clement squeezing ‘every ounce’ out of them, Chris Sutton claims on It’s All Kicking Off… as he pinpoints main issue they face
Rangers could be in for a difficult campaign next season if they fail to get their recruitment in order in the summer, Chris Sutton has highlighted on the Mail Sport podcast.
Philippe Clement’s side were once again second to Celtic in the Scottish Premier League, finishing eight points behind their rivals and also losing in the Scottish Cup final this weekend, with Adam Idah’s late goal being enough to ensure the Brendan Rodgers’ team achieved victory. trophy.
Sutton suggested that Clement, who took over from Michael Beale in October, ‘got everything out of an average Rangers group’ which, admittedly, was not his. The summer will provide the Belgian with the opportunity to recruit his own players, but his side, Sutton said, “will need a strong start to next season” if they are to compete.
The problem, however, Sutton said, is that Rangers ‘can’t spend’ and Celtic will have a ‘huge advantage’ of qualifying directly for the Champions League by winning the competition.
While Sutton’s co-host Ian Ladyman was keen to call out Jack Butland’s mistake in the final, Sutton brushed off the criticism and congratulated Brendan Rodgers and his team.
