Randy Orton insists rising WWE star has ‘got the future by the balls’ having excelled following major character change: ‘We haven’t seen anything from him yet’

  • Orton has been one of the most popular stars since his return to Survivor Series
  • The man in question has developed rapidly since the character change
  • He enjoys competing against some of the stars alongside his stablemates

Randy Orton has insisted a current WWE star has a big future ahead of him after impressing in recent months.

Orton returned to the WWE at November’s Survivor Series event after 18 months out injured, joining a team with Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn and Seth Rollins to defeat The Judgment Day and Drew McIntyre.

The Judgment Day has been steadily growing in popularity in the WWE, with a storyline that has seen R Truth receiving critical acclaim as of late.

One member of the group is Dominik Mysterio, who joined in 2022 after turning against his father, Rey Mysterio, becoming a heel in the process.

Still just 26 years old, Mysterio was thrown into the deep end of the company as business was relatively slow before joining The Judgment Day at SummerSlam 16 months ago. And Orton, speaking on ‘The Bump’, has backed his recent foe to go all the way.

“Oh my God, that kid has a great future ahead of him,” Orton said. “We haven’t even seen anything from him yet and he’s already done so much.

“The reaction he’s getting from the people… I’ve been able to work with him on some live events recently and the boy is good. He has the future by the balls.’

Mysterio’s loyalty to The Judgment Day has seen him become NXT North American Champion and find success alongside fellow members Damian Priest, Finn Balor, Rhea Ripley and JD McDonagh.

After winning the North American title from Wes Lee in July, he enjoyed two reigns that lasted until December, losing to Dragon Lee.

Orton, meanwhile, has admitted he felt somewhat let down by plans for his return in November.

Instead of making a surprise appearance, plans for him to participate in the War Games match were announced a week earlier, essentially ruining the element of surprise, while the returning CM Punk fans at the end of the night shocked.

“Funny side story, a month earlier there were all these rumors about me coming back, but there were also rumors about CM Punk,” Orton said. “Instead of it being a surprise that it was me, they let everyone know a week in advance. I kind of let the wind out of my sails because I had been away for a year and a half, there was all this expectation, people expected me to come back.

‘I notice that I have become much more mature. Part of me wanted to be furious that this was taken away from me, the crowd reaction that I had been looking forward to for 18 months, but finally I came out and got a great reaction, Punk came out and I got a great reaction, and I realized afterwards that no one was stepping on anyone’s toes, it was just a really fun night for the fans. But here I am after 18 months, ready to go, and they say, “No, we’re going to announce your return,” but that’s the way it goes here, you never know.”
