Rainbow flag burned at LA elementary school where irate parents have vowed to celebrate BOYCOTT Pride event

A transgender teacher’s Pride flag has been burned at a Los Angeles elementary school where irate parents have vowed to boycott an LGBT event.

An intruder broke into North Hollywood’s Saticoy Elementary School last weekend and set the flag on fire.

The full-time teacher, who is a transgender man, discovered the remains in a plant pot that was also broken.

He has now been removed from the school by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) over concerns for his safety, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Anger among the school community has escalated over an upcoming Pride rally and parents have planned a protest against the “inappropriate” event on Friday.

The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed they are investigating the incident and the school has sent a message to the parents.

“We experienced a burglary this weekend at Saticoy Elementary that resulted in vandalism and is being investigated as a hate-motivated incident,” it said.

“We are cooperating with the police. This is a reminder that we trust our entire school community to keep our school safe and secure by reporting suspicious activity on campus after hours. If you see something, say something.’

The transgender teacher was removed from Saticoy Elementary School for his own safety, according to a source who wishes to remain anonymous.

His image was pulled from the school’s website, but an image of the teacher before and after his transition was posted to Instagram pages used by parents against the Pride rally.

Here’s the special ed/3rd grade trans teacher (first picture as a female, later as a male) at Saticoy Elementary who made it a point to send a message to [Armenian] children about [Pride],” the message read.

One parent commented that they knew he was transgender and no one had been bothered by it before.

“He has now decided to stir things up and make his private sexual affairs our children,” they wrote.

Another Saticoy Elementary School teacher, who asked to remain anonymous, said staff no longer feel safe.

“We’re in an atmosphere, especially here in the United States with school shootings where, no, I don’t feel safe,” they said.

“I don’t think any of our teachers feel safe. And many parents don’t feel safe for their children either.’

The incident comes after parents set up an Instagram account called “saticoyelementaryparents” on May 16 to protest the school’s upcoming Pride rally, where teachers read a book by Mary Hoffman titled “The Great Big Book of Families’.

There is talk of diversity and ‘all types of families’, including those with LGBTQ+ parents.

And just three days later, parents pulled their children from a class taught by a transgender substitute teacher, according to three school sources.

The teacher is said to have previously worked at the school without any issues before the backlash over the Pride event.

“It was terrible,” said one employee. “I understand that people have freedom of speech and the ability to believe and have their own opinions, but if it directly results in affecting another person’s livelihood, that is unconscionable.”

The LAUSD declined to confirm the incident, saying, “Due to confidentiality laws, we cannot handle student and human resources matters.

“You can rest assured that Los Angeles Unified remains committed to providing a learning and work environment that is free from discrimination, harassment, harassment or bullying.”

The irate parents plan to protest outside the school on June 2 and have told others who “share conservative values” and “don’t consider this material appropriate to teach the children” to join them.
