Millions of people in the North East have been warned of flooding as rain is forecast to lash the region until Thursday, creating dangerous travel conditions and a wet environment.

The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for 31 million Americans through Thursday as a coastal low-pressure system moves through the East Coast, gathering moisture and bringing heavy rain along the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Oceans.

Forecasters say the rain will cause areas of flash flooding and that urban, poor drainage and low-lying areas are most at risk.

Philadelphia, New York and Boston are expected to receive one to five inches of rain, while parts of Rhode Island and Long Island could see five to four inches of rain.

“This next storm coming from the south will also bring in moisture from the Gulf,” he said FOX Weather Meteorologist Britta Merwin.

“So I think we have a greater potential to maybe have a flood risk before the end of the week.”

New York City Emergency Management has issued a travel advisory Wednesday through Thursday due to heavy rain and flooding.

Central Park collected 1.23 inches of rain as of 6 p.m. Wednesday, with more rain expected to flood the area through Thursday.

In New Jersey, forecasters say flooding is possible for the Saddle River, Ramapo River, Rahway, Passaic, Hackensack Rivers and Hohokus Brook.

“As rainfall continues across New Jersey, flood warnings have been issued in several counties,” New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said on Twitter.

‘Keep an eye on the local weather and plan accordingly for the evening ride. Remember: turn around, don’t drown.’

Boston is expected to see showers through the evening rush hour. The high temperature in Beantown is expected to reach 45 degrees.
