Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne weather: Massive rain dump threatens to wash out the EKKA
Large parts of Australia’s east coast are set to experience a spell of rain over the coming days as the capital prepares for the biggest event of the year.
Three separate weather systems are colliding in Queensland, bringing several days of heavy rain and possible storms over the weekend and next week.
Some parts of the Sunshine State are expected to see 30 to 40 mm of rain.
Rainfall is also likely to affect parts of northern New South Wales.
In the rest of the country, many Australians can expect mostly fine and sunny weather until Wednesday. The heat will first increase in Western Australia and then spread to South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania.
The higher temperatures are caused by a high pressure area spreading across the south.
A cold front that hit the southwest of the country earlier this week is expected to continue moving east.
The system was expected to reach Victoria and Tasmania on Thursday evening, bringing with it some showers.

Eastern parts of Queensland, from Central Queensland to the South East, could see heavy rain from early next week, with some parts of the state expecting 30 to 40mm of rain.

“Queensland is a place that gets a lot of rain,” said Angus Hines, a meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology.
‘It’s not raining terribly hard and it’s not very alarming either.
“(But) it’s definitely raining quite a bit.”
An easterly land flow will develop over the city on Friday and early next week a weather phenomenon will develop at higher levels, bringing dark clouds and rain.
“I think you definitely have to plan ahead,” he said.
‘Please note that there may be some rain along the way.’
The EKKA, or The Royal Queensland Show, starts this Saturday and runs until next Sunday, August 18.
It looks like it will rain next Monday and Tuesday.
The show takes place at the Brisbane Showgrounds in the city centre.
It offers a mix of agricultural exhibitions with thrill rides, bumper cars, showbags, performances and food.
