After months of strike interruptions, train passengers finally have good news and can save big on Christmas and New Year’s travel.

Yesterday LNER, which operates train services between London, Yorkshire, the North East and Scotland, started offering advance fares until January 6.

For the holiday season, discounted advance rates are also offered by several other companies, including Avanti West Coast and GWR.

David Horne, Managing Director of LNER, which also offers a range of Christmas food and beverages, including chicken and stuffing sandwiches, muffins and roast pork sausage rolls, says: ‘This Christmas we have thousands of our great value fares.’

Presale rates during the Christmas period will provide significant savings. They include London to York for £26, London to Manchester for £32 and London to Bristol for £21.50.

By comparison, if bought on the day of travel, an off-peak fare from Euston to Manchester costs £68.60, while King’s Cross to York costs £123.20 for a one-way ticket during off-peak hours.
