Raided Sophie’s wardrobe? Princess Beatrice gave Duchess’ Emilia Wickstead dress a chic update

Princess Beatrice appeared to be taking style notes from her aunt as she stepped out in Windsor for the Royal Family’s Easter celebrations yesterday.

The royal, 34, looked effortlessly elegant in a pale pink Emilia Wickstead midi dress with a black lace trim that ran down the arms.

The Duchess of Edinburgh first wore the designer dress to Royal Ascot in June 2018, where she competed in the races for a day alongside the late Queen and the Duchess of Sussex.

For the annual event, the mother-of-two wore a mauve fascinator, nude pointed heels and a pink handbag that perfectly matched the tone of her designer dress.

Yesterday, Beatrice stepped out in the exact same design for the Royal Family’s Easter Sunday service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.

But instead of copying her aunt’s exact look, Beatrice put her own spin on the dress – which was created by one of the Princess of Wales’ favorite designers.

To offset the lace detail, a child’s mother opted for a range of black accessories.

To tighten her waist, Beatrice added a feminine black silk tie belt.

The royal family also chose a statement black fascinator with a faux white color to wear to church.

Alongside a boxy black clutch, Beatrice completed her ensemble with a pair of black suede slingback high heels.

But this isn’t the first time Beatrice has turned to another member of the royal family for fashion inspiration.

For her wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in July 2020, the royal family wore a tiara and a vintage dress generously loaned to her by her grandmother the Queen, who passed away last September at the age of 96.

The sleeveless dress was originally designed by Norman Hartnell – who also designed the Queen’s 1947 wedding dress – in the 1960s.

However, it was converted by the Queen’s dresser, Angela Kelly and Stewart Parvin, to serve as a wedding dress.

The dress is made of Peau De Soie taffeta in shades of ivory, complete with organza puff sleeves added for Beatrice.

The royal family then added a Queen Mary fringed diamond tiara to complete her look – which her grandmother also wore for her wedding to Prince Philip in 1947.

The tiara, made by Garrard in 1919 from a necklace given to Mary as a wedding present, was given to the Queen Mother in 1936 and later loaned to Princess Elizabeth and Princess Anne for their wedding days.

Like the Kokoshnik tiara, it is designed to look like a fashionable Russian headdress with 47 diamond bars.

Tiaras in this style were especially popular in the first half of the 20th century and the Queen inherited it after her mother’s death in 2002.

Yesterday was the first time the royal family gathered to celebrate Easter since the Queen passed away.

The late monarch did not attend Easter service last year due to the mobility issues she had at the time, and was instead represented by senior royals.

The Wales family was in a group of younger royals at the back of the party that walked from Windsor Castle to St George’s Chapel on a Sunday morning.

That group included Princess Beatrice and her husband Edo Mapelli Mozzi, and Mike and Zara Tindall with their two oldest children, Mia and Lena.

The King and Queen Consort – also in royal blue – led the party. Behind them were his brother and sister, Prince Andrew and Princess Anne.
