Raheem Sterling is expected to make his first start for Arsenal since his surprise arrival from Chelsea against Bolton in the Carabao Cup tonight.

The experienced forward was loaned to the Gunners on transfer deadline day but has yet to play a game for his new club.

Sterling will be in action tonight at the Emirates Stadium, however, with Mikel Arteta set to make a number of changes following last weekend’s gruelling visit to Manchester City. The Gunners played the entire second half with ten men after Leandro Trossard was sent off at the end of the first 45 minutes.

The 29-year-old has made two substitute appearances since arriving from Stamford Bridge, once in the Premier League win over Tottenham and once in last week’s European draw against Atalanta.

But Sterling gets the chance to stake his claim for a regular role in tonight’s match.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper David Raya, who left the Etihad Stadium with a bandage and a limp, is expected to be rested, while 16-year-old Jack Porter is expected to make his debut.

Graduate Ethan Nwaneri is also hoping for his first ever starting spot in attack against the League One side.

Nwaneri is expected to get more playing time in the coming weeks as captain Martin Odegaard continues his rehabilitation from a serious ankle ligament injury.
