Raheem Sterling deserves ‘full credit’ for his revival at Chelsea, says Mauricio Pochettino as striker reveals his aim to become the club’s top goalscorer this season following a win over Luton

Mauricio Pochettino was full of praise for Raheem Sterling, who launched his bid to become Chelsea’s top goalscorer this season with a two-goal goal against Luton.
Sterling continued his impressive start to the season with his double and also fired in the cross that converted Nicolas Jackson to open his Chelsea account as Stamford Bridge secured their first competitive win of the Pochettino era.
Sterling had a disappointing debut season at Chelsea following his £47.5 million move from Manchester City, but has made a good start this time around.
Pochettino said: “He deserves all the credit for his performance. I’m so happy for him because he told me last season was a difficult one for him and I’m really happy when the player is happy and when an attacking player can score and provide assists, that’s the best feeling for us.’
Sterling said: ‘It’s a goal I had to set for myself (to be Chelsea’s top goalscorer this season), it’s something I know I can do. When I’m 100% for something I know what I can do and that’s what I’m doing this year: focus 100% on scoring goals and helping my team. I want to get obsessed with football again.”

Striker Jackson’s goal was a deserved reward for a hard-working performance from the £32 million summer signing and Pochettino said: ‘He’s amazing. It’s hard to find a player like him in the market, and hard to see in other teas. For me he has the potential to become one of the great forwards in the Premier League. Only he needs time and he shouldn’t hurry.’
Luton manager Rob Edwards said: ‘We don’t like losing but I can accept it with a performance like that. We just fell short at key moments in both boxes. At the end of the game, when our fans clap us like that, I’m proud to represent this club.’
