Footage has emerged showing the Everton squad being cursed at by angry fans following the club’s disappointing 4-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday.

The Toffees have made a poor start to the Premier League season after losing 3-0 at home to Brighton on the opening day.

Sean Dyche’s team were beaten by Tottenham on Saturday, with two goals from Son Heung-min and goals from Yves Bissouma and Cristian Romero, leaving Everton with another heavy defeat.

Everton are bottom of the Premier League after their heavy defeats, meaning the club may have to fight against relegation for another season.

On Saturday night, angry fans could be heard shouting ‘f*** off’ at the Everton team as they walked back to Merseyside on the train.

Footage showed fans insulting Everton players, including England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Pickford was at fault for Tottenham’s second goal on Saturday after he was caught in possession by Son, with the South Korean rolling into an empty net.

Defender Mason Holgate and striker Neal Maupay were among the players who were cursed by fans as they boarded a train at Euston station.

Both Holgate and Maupay were unused substitutes in the defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Maupay, who is known for egging on his opponents on the field, appeared to bite the supporters as he walked past.

The attacker has since responded to the footage on social media, writing: ‘Imagine another job where it’s normal to receive this kind of abuse. Hanging around a train station shouting at men who are trying their best…’

Maupay, who scored one goal in 32 games for the Toffees, has not played for the club since August last year after spending last season on loan at Brentford.

Everton’s dismal start to the season had led to bookmakers Paddy Power giving the Toffees a hefty sum of money for relegation from the top division just two weeks into the new season.

The Toffees played with a weakened squad on Saturday, including debutant Roman Dixon (19) at right back.

Ashley Young is suspended, Jarrad Branthwaite is injured and James Tarkowski was unsure about his fitness ahead of the match.

The club, hit by the crisis, survived despite a points deduction last season, but could not really strengthen itself this summer as the takeover process continues.

Dyche admitted the club is unlikely to have the financial resources to expand the squad before Friday’s transfer deadline, but also said he would not settle for another battle against relegation.

“There is no acceptance of anything,” Dyche said on Saturday. “There is a reality to all the challenges in football, but that is not acceptance.

‘It’s difficult to come here to Spurs and it’s even more difficult with a thin squad. I don’t like to make excuses but that’s a fact. Does that mean they win? No, it doesn’t because it doesn’t always work like that but you have to make sure it doesn’t work like that.’

“Until I’m told otherwise, there’s no funding to go and go and change things. This is what we are.”

Everton return to action in front of their home fans at Goodison Park on Tuesday for a Carabao Cup second round clash against League One club Doncaster Rovers.

On Saturday, the Toffees host Bournemouth for their final Premier League match before the international break.
