Radio star Kip Wightman posts extraordinary footage of his 12-year-old niece Rosie trying to save her pet from the jaws of a snake in her Sunshine Coast backyard

Terrifying images have emerged of radio star Kip Wightman’s brave niece as she tried to save her guinea pig from the mouth of a snake in the backyard of her family’s home.

The Brisbane breakfast presenter from KISS FM uploaded the video to Instagram on Wednesday, showing the dramatic moment his niece Rosie desperately tried to save her pet at her home in Eumundi, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, last Sunday.

CCTV footage of the incident shows the 12-year-old casually approaching some bushes on the corner of the backyard before she can be seen rummaging through the plants.

Rosie then spotted her guinea pig, MaxiBon, next to the foliage before discovering the small white animal was in the jaws of a snake.

The teen then screams in horror as she swings the snake in circles around the backyard in an attempt to save Maxibon.

Rosie continued to swing the snake by the tail for several seconds.

In the footage, a garden stool is knocked over, while a black poodle was forced to take cover during the wild scene.

Moments later, Rosie’s parents ran into the backyard and her father quickly went to work removing the snake from the guinea pig.

The freed pig hurried back into the bushes, while the light brown snake quickly slithered in the other direction.

Rosie and her father appeared visibly shaken as she checked Maxibon, while her father carefully checked the snake’s location.

Wightman’s Instagram post, which has now been viewed more than 5,000 times, attracted dozens of comments from users praising Rosie for saving her pet.

‘Well done Rosie! What a legend you are!!” said one user.

‘OMG She was much braver than me, I would have just run away screaming.’ another wrote.

“I can imagine the noise of this chaotic scene: an incredible young lady!”
