Rachel Weisz has described her experience of miscarriage in an emotional new interview with podcast, The News Agents.
The British actress, 53, a mother of two, spoke out about the loss of her child as she addressed the criticism of the depiction of childbirth and loss in her new series, Dead Ringers, in which she plays gynecologist twins.
Rachel welcomed daughter Grace, now four, in 2018 with husband Daniel Craig, 55, when she was 48 and he was 51. She also shares son Henry, 16, with ex-partner Darren Aronofsky, 54. The couple were together from 2001-2010 .
She told hosts Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel about the reaction to the scenes, which featured women going through miscarriages and images of live births: “I think I was probably surprised because I was just telling this story about the female experience, and it didn’t seem to have been as heightened or overly dramatized.
‘…Women have miscarriages, I’ve had a miscarriage, so you suddenly see blood coming out of your body and this is all part of a female experience of living.

So we’re not used to it. I guess we’re not used to all those things being portrayed cinematically or fictionally. So maybe this is groundbreaking for this show.”
The star, who keeps her personal life private, has not revealed when she miscarried.
She made very rare comments about her husband Daniel, who quit his role as James Bond in 2021’s No Time To Die, saying she was “relieved” that he was no longer playing 007.
She said, “It was very dangerous. I mean, he got injured a lot because he did all his own stunts. So the danger quotient has definitely dropped… It’s a much less stressful time for him.
“I’m very proud of his time as Bond and I think he was really, really brilliant. But yes, it is certainly much less stressful now.’
Elsewhere in the chat, Rachel denounced hypocritical anti-abortion activists who endorse the death penalty in the US.
She said: ‘Both ends of life have different rules, it’s very strange… Children have to be born, but there will be no free health care for them. There is no free education for children under the age of five.
“And now every day there seems to be more and more chances of being shot by an assault rifle at school… You can take life at the end of your life; the government can choose to say you deserve to die. But at the beginning of life, a woman has no choice. How do you rationalize that?’

The six-episode miniseries Dead Ringers is a gender-swapped adaptation of director David Cronenberg’s 1988 psychological thriller of the same name, which starred Jeremy Irons as twin gynecologists who run an infertility clinic.
Set in New York, Weisz plays both Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes.
They work together to push the boundaries of medical ethics in an effort to challenge outdated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.
Amazon first announced the project in August 2020, prompting direct serial ordering and production to begin in August 2021.
David Cronenberg’s original film is an adaptation of Bari Wood and Jack Geasland’s 1977 novel Twins, which was loosely based on the true story of twin gynecologists Stewart and Cyril Marcus.
They were both found dead in July 1975 in separate rooms of Cyril’s Manhattan apartment aged just 45, with Stewart dying of a barbiturate overdose and Cyril suspected of possibly committing suicide in a suicide pact after finding his brother dead .
