Rachel Bilson spoke to Bling Ring members Alexis and Gabrielle Neiers – who once robbed her house – on her podcast Broad ideas with Rachel Bilson Monday, where she said closure was essential for all parties.

“I had mostly conflicting feelings about this,” Bilson, 41, said during the episode. “And I have to let you know that I’ve always stayed very far away from everything that had to do with the Bling Ring and everything that happened.”

Bilson, who played Summer Roberts on The OC, was one of a number of stars targeted by the criminal group, which also robbed Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Audrina Patridge and Orlando Bloom.

Bilson said she “never read anything” or paid attention to the media coverage of the infamous Hollywood crime syndicate.

The Los Angeles native added: “I’ve never seen anything and I’ve never supported the movie Sofia Coppola did. I thought it was strange to pay so much attention to something that had such a big impact for me personally and for other people involved.’

Gabrielle apologized to the Hart of Dixie star, saying, “I’m so sorry I ever made the choice to enter your house that night. I’ll tell you everything you need to know to give you the closure you deserve and I’m so sorry.

“I wish I could take it back, it’s been a living nightmare for you for the past 10 years, 11 years and as a mother now all you want to do is protect your babies and I know I’ve stripped you of feeling safe in you house and I’m so sorry. Sorry.’

Alexis told Bilson that she and Gabrielle had taken part in The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist, a new Netflix documentary on the subject, in an effort to give the actress a sense of closure about the events.

Alexis said she felt the documentary’s coverage was done in a “toxic and unhealthy way,” and spoke of the progress she’s made in her personal life in the ten years since the robberies.

The Bling Ring — which also included Rachel Lee, Nick Prugo, Courtney Ames and Diana Tamayo — stole close to $3 million in cash and valuables from 2008-2009.

“Our intention was to make the documentary so we could give you this,” Alexis said. ‘We were so excited about the truth that we finally… to own it all. These aren’t tears from me, they’re tears because I know how hard this is for her because I had to go through it, but we’re separate victims and I made it on the other side of it.’

“I got sober when I was 19, I went to intensive therapy, I did my time, I did my thorough recovery, and I’ve been in AA for the past 11 and a half years,” Alexis said. “Our intention to make the documentary was for you and the other victims and it’s so frustrating and such a shame that that’s not what came out of the documentary in the end.”

Bilson told the sisters that many “outside opinions and voices” had tried to convince her not to talk to them, but she said it was clear they were in “a different chapter in life.”

“Even my mom was like, ‘What?!” you know because her ring was stolen [but] she [came] back because she is a very spiritual, enlightened woman and said, “No, forgiveness is the most important.” There are feelings…and…there may be noise, but it’s really…your choice. It’s your actions and that’s all that matters.’

Bilson said the fact that the sisters have children of their own was a relevant factor in her decision-making.

“It’s so important to you and as a mother that you let go completely ’cause now you’re not that little girl, you’ve got your little girl and it’s so important because it won’t do you any good, and it won’t make you feel good .’

Bilson said that “for me it’s always going to trigger when the Bling Ring comes on or some other f***ing thing comes out and it’s glorified in some way because people were really personally affected by these incidents and it goes more for the offense than the things actually taken.’

She commented: “It’s important to get ahead in life and to some extent forgiveness is always the best way and the best move because why hold on to those things that really make you feel bad.”
