It’s always worth having one or two favorite limiting words on hand, just in case patterns emerge that have different solutions. BEFOG is one of my top choices because B, F, and G are all relatively common consonants and none are included in my three regular starting words STARE, DOILY, and PUNCH. Therefore, if I get a pattern like -OUND – which can still be BOUND, WOUND or FOUND even if many other letters are excluded – I can play BEFOG and be pretty confident that I can solve it in two guesses, instead of potentially needing three. .
In addition, you might get a yellow or green letter in another segment, which happened today with the G; it wasn’t needed in -OUND, but it showed up in IGLOO and helped me fix that more easily than it would have been otherwise.
