I quit my job and gave up a six-figure salary to become a spiritual healer for animals

A real life Dr. Dolittle gave up her successful career in the city and a six-figure salary to become a spiritual healer for animals.

Gemma Cantillon, from Grantham, Lincolnshire, has spent 25 years working her way up to the top of several major multinational companies, leading their HR departments.

But after a successful career helping people climb the corporate ladder, the 48-year-old has turned her attention to the animal kingdom.

In 2020, she gave up her enormous earnings to train as a Reiki healer and now helps improve the mental health of pets and farm animals.

Since launching her services, she has helped depressed dogs, anxious cats, a distressed crow and an injured pheasant.

The mother-of-one charges £65 per session and uses meditation to communicate with animals and relay their problems to their owners.

She also offers a remote service to pet owners who live far away, connecting with the animals using their photos as a channel.

Despite the significant drop in income, Gemma says she has ‘never been happier’ helping animals overcome their problems.

She said: ‘There are two ways to communicate with animals. You can go face-to-face, but you can also do it remotely.

“I often do it from a distance and ask the pet owner for a recent, good-quality photo that shows the animal’s eyes.” I meditate and look at the photo and study it.

‘As soon as I feel that I have the connection, I close my eyes and ask the animal questions. I ask general, open-ended questions to get the process started.

‘I have never heard an animal say that it does not want to communicate with me, sometimes it takes several sessions.

‘I listen to reactions through my body, sometimes I hear words. I do a face-to-face feedback session.

‘Sometimes I have no idea what these messages mean, I tell the human what the animal has told me. I provide a complete written report to the customer.

‘The most common animals I work with are cats, dogs and horses, but my training allows me to communicate with any animal.

‘I have a lot of people who come to me, a lot of regular customers. Most people really love and care for their animals.

‘I can talk to the animals and ask them to share everything from their past and ask what they want to do differently. I always say that I will not ask an animal to change its behavior.’

Gemma is bound by a strict code of ethics and does not talk to animals without the owner’s permission.

She explains: ‘You must get permission from the animal’s human before you can talk to them.

‘With wild animals you are free to talk to them, but a neighbor may not appreciate you talking to his cat. Animal communicators cannot medically diagnose anything during a session.

‘It’s about respecting confidentiality. Sometimes animals share important messages for their people.

‘I had a special client with her dog Marley. It was the first time I worked with this customer.

‘This customer asked me to communicate with their dog. They asked me some general questions, I think they were just intrigued.

“I went in and did that. The dog told me some personal things he wanted to happen when he died. I asked the animal what its wishes were.

‘The dog said that within 48 hours he would stop eating and drinking and he would become lethargic.

‘I went in very carefully and told her what her animal said. She just accepted it gracefully. Nine days later the dog died and she was able to meet his needs.

‘I say we are all souls living in a different vessel, I believe my soul is equal to the soul of any animal.

‘I did communicate with a chicken who wanted red grapes, not green grapes. They have their own wishes.’

Gemma left her corporate career in HR behind after a family move to East Sussex caused a sudden change in mood.

She said: ‘I have worked in HR for almost 25 years, I have worked in various organizations for large companies. All my roles were leading HR roles.

‘I left HR and my role in 2018 and took a break from my HR work. At that time I felt it was time for a change. The business world no longer appealed to me.

‘I was trying to find my purpose, I had half my life to find something. I had heard about animal communication and had no idea what it was about.

‘I started taking courses and training in the field of animal communication. It was a year after my training that I went for it. I found people with animals who let me work with them.

“Once I realized I could do this, it all came together quickly and I built up a bank of customers.

She added: “When you come from a career where it was very logical and factual, it’s a strange career choice.

‘Anyone can do this, it’s not a gift for a few people. We are all born with telepathic abilities.

‘Every piece of communication requires a few hours of work. I don’t ask for much information from the customer, it’s mainly to make sure I understand what the customer is looking for. It takes a lot of time and a lot of energy. We all vibrate at a certain rate.

“Because animals are in the moment, because they don’t worry about the messages, I have to make sure I raise my vibration to match that of the animal.

‘I was walking my dog and I can be very receptive. There was a crow perched on a telegraph pole rocking back and forth, absolutely squawking with its wings spread out.

“I asked if everything was OK and they said they were displaced. They said they had babies in a nest and they had to leave them behind. Another time I had a feeling of a pheasant in a field saying it had an injured leg.’

Gemma admitted that not everyone believes her ability to heal animals with spiritual healing.

She said: ‘There are skeptics. I’m not here to change anyone’s opinion. I tend to attract people who already believe and trust me. A lot of people have worked with me and passed the details on to someone else.”
