A quick-thinking girl has revealed how she used her Alexa device to save herself from a gang of marauding monkeys who invaded her home.
Nikita, from the Basti district of Uttar Pradesh in northern India, told her Amazon Alexa to play sounds of a dog barking to scare off a group of monkeys who were throwing food and utensils into her kitchen.
The 13-year-old told India ANI news: ‘Some guests visited our house and left the gate open.
“Monkeys came into the kitchen and started throwing things here and there.”
Nikita said she was with her 15-month-old niece at the time, who the teen said was scared, so she showed some quick thinking as she tried to get the marauding monkeys out of the house.

“I saw Alexa and asked it to play the sound of a dog. That barking sound scared the monkeys and they ran away,” Nikita said.
Her mother, Shipra Ojha, told the outlet that Nikita used the Alexa device — an Amazon Echo Dot 3rd generation — to save the girls’ lives.
She said she was in another room when she heard the barking noises her “wise” daughter Alexa was asking for, causing the gang of monkeys to flee the house.
The teenager was also praised for her quick thinking by local authorities, who agreed she probably saved her and her niece’s lives.
Nikita’s brother-in-law and father of her niece told local media that monkeys are very common in the area and are known for being ‘naughty’.
He added that Alexa has been a big help to the family, who use it to control the lights, fan and air conditioning in the home.
“It also gives us the news update, the score of IPL, (and if you) ask a question, it gives the answer. You can say almost anything,” he added.
